HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN SPACE ?

As of April 2023, a total of 18 people have died while on space missions. All of these fatalities occurred during spaceflight missions, and none of them occurred during spacewalks or extravehicular activities (EVAs). Here is a breakdown of the fatalities:

Soyuz 1: Vladimir Komarov, April 24, 1967

X-15 Flight 3-65-97: Michael J. Adams, November 15, 1967

Soyuz 11: Georgi Dobrovolski, Viktor Patsayev, Vladislav Volkov, June 30, 1971

Space Shuttle Challenger: Francis R. Scobee, Michael J. Smith, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, Gregory Jarvis, Christa McAuliffe, January 28, 1986

Space Shuttle Columbia: Rick D. Husband, William C. McCool, Michael P. Anderson, Ilan Ramon, Kalpana Chawla, David M. Brown, Laurel B. Clark, February 1, 2003

It's worth noting that spaceflight is an inherently risky endeavor, and the safety of astronauts and space travelers is a top priority for space agencies around the world. Advances in technology, improved safety protocols, and a focus on risk management have helped to reduce the likelihood of accidents and fatalities in space.
